Whether you agree or realize it or not, we live and thrive by connection. Connection to God and connection to others. This is our heartbeat.
I tweeted this a few days ago, partly because I believe it’s true, and partly because I often miss it.
I often get frustrated and tired and wonder why I’m feeling more squeezed than alive.
I have the tendency to focus on details, to vigorously pursue achievement or the completion of a task, and miss the big picture, miss the people in front of me.
I don’t do this all the time, but soon enough, if I’ve done it for too long, I start to feel it. Like I’m being squeezed.
The connection that’s most important in life, in all of life, can seem to evade me whenever I’m focused on me, my job, my responsibilities, my job description, or even my passions.
Of course, those things desire good and right amounts of time and attention, but at the expense of connection with God and with people? I don’t think so.
Maybe they can fuse together, passions, job, responsibilities and connecting with God and people. Maybe they should. Maybe if we can get to a place where those things meet, we can find that we are fully living.
In all that we do today, how are we engaging in the thing that makes our hearts beat? How are you and I truly connecting with God and with people?
