We all want to live and tell better stories with our lives. We do.
If you are reading a blog such as this, you want to live for something greater, have some kind of impact on the world, leave someone’s life or everyone’s lives better because you were on this planet.
Each of us has within our bones, embedded into our framework a story that has been told for ages and across generations. This story is one of struggle, heartache, and loss, but also of hope, joy, and victory. It’s a story that all humanity is a part of, yet not all humanity chooses to join.
It’s the story of God, the narrative of the Creator.
We are a part of it, whether we choose to join or not, because the earth and all its fullness belongs to Him. Even history belongs to Him, for He existed before time.
The most amazing, incredible thing we could ever have our eyes opened to is that the God of all the ages would look down, see us, and be delighted to invite us into His epic narrative; that God would desire to have us play a part, to give us a role in His divine drama.
We have the opportunity to step into the greatest story ever told.
How do we step in? We begin by looking at Jesus. He is the source of our identity and our purpose, and by looking at Him we will begin to see more clearly where we fit into God’s story.
We also begin to more fully step in when we surrender our lives and our gifts to God. When we do that, we actually receive these things back in greater abundance, and with more freedom to use them for greater impact on the world. Because now we are acknowledging that the change and the gift doesn’t come from us, but from God, and our perspective is on stewarding the gift for good, not using it for personal gain.
It’s important for us to be aware of our wirings, the way God has made us, and what He is calling us to.
If I am an awesome baker, I am going to do that for the glory of God and impact His story for all eternity.
If I am an awesome dad or mom, I’m going to raise my kids to be awesome.
If I am a neurosurgeon, I am going to operate on brains and spines for God’s glory.
If I am an artist (we are all artists in some way), I am going to create and allow God’s Spirit to infuse my imagination to make amazing, life-giving things.
God has created each of us with specific DNA to be awesome. Because of Jesus, we get to live and tell the greatest story ever told.
Finding our places may not be quick. It may actually take some time, and more often than not it’s a process of stepping into our gifts. But, we have a place in God’s story, we have a chance to impact eternity. That’s better than sitting on the couch.
I’m in process, too. It’s ok.
Let’s start to live a better story together.
