To give thanks is a choice, a decision to love and remember. Very often you and I overlook what’s most important, what’s right in front of us.
The people, the events, and what God has done in our hearts, minds, and bodies that have transformed us and made us into who we are today are worth revisiting, remembering, and worth much more than one day of our thanks.
Think about how far you’ve come and how much God has done in your life, whether you were aware of those particular events at the time or not, and give thanks to Him. Make a conscious decision today to speak, write, or have inner dialogue with God and communicate your thanks and gratefulness.
Our God is good and draws near to us, moving and transforming and enlivening us much more than we can ever be fully aware, but we would do a massive injustice to Him if we didn’t take some time to open ourselves to our stories and reflect on the presence of God.
Your story and mine is a wonderful depiction of a gracious and loving God slowly and tenderly, and sometimes instantly, working.
In the presence of God there is fullness of joy, and my prayer today is that each one of us can experience the richness of this truth. With family and with friends I hope that you and I can smile, rest, and reflect on the goodness of God and what He has done. Let that compel us to excitement regarding our futures and the stories He is writing in our lives.
“You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Psalm 16:11
